Howe Park Shooting Wounds 4 People Shot in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade Neighborhood

Officials in Sacramento County are examining a violent incident that unfolded Saturday evening at Howe Park at the moment authorities were dissolving an unlawful assembly of several hundred people.

How It Started

Sacramento County law enforcement initially responded to Howe Park around 6:30 PM on April 18 after learning of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Soon after, additional information came in about a reported physical confrontation taking place near the park.

Aerial units scanned the area from the air but reported no active disturbance. However, it became clear that hundreds of people had come together at the location without any permit or approval.

The Shooting Itself

Officers moved to clear the area by encircling the gathering and announcing over their public address systems instructing the assembled crowd to leave immediately. Roughly 15 minutes were allowed for the gathering to break up.

As the crowd was being cleared that upwards of 20 gunshots echoed through the night. The sudden gunfire triggered a stampede. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies immediately began locating gunshot victims.

Four People Shot

Altogether, four people were found to have been shot. The shooting victims — comprising three men and one woman ranging in age through their in their 20s — were transported to Sacramento area hospitals. Medical teams stated that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one person's injuries were considered minor. Thankfully, each of the four victims was stable.

Sacramento Metro Fire were called to the scene and helped care for those who had been shot before they were taken to the hospital.

Physical Evidence

The Arden Arcade shooting April 2026 primary shooting scene was determined to have been concentrated along Cottage Way adjacent to the Home Depot store at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Investigators identified additional spent rounds on the Cottage Way roadway. Bullet damage were noted in the wrought iron fence surrounding the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries confirmed that a shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from the Cottage Way area in the direction of the Home Depot store. That Home Depot location was temporarily locked down while law enforcement worked the area. Crime scene personnel stayed at the location well into the night.

Detainees in Solano County

Information relayed through law enforcement radio communications showed that a Kia connected to the shooting was pulled over in the Solano County area. Four people were held for questioning. Sacramento law enforcement were heading to pick up the four detainees to return them to Sacramento for processing in Sacramento County. Surveillance footage confirmed that two individuals had fired weapons.
